Before Helene rolled through the Appalachian region, I wrote a poem responding to the way folks have viewed these mountains as a "safe-haven" from climate change because that perspective requires ignoring the many natural and extractive disasters that long-time residents have endured for centuries. I am grateful to have that poem included in this anthology of the long-running Women of Appalachia Project.
